Single-piece limits: 32 kg on routes to/from the UK, Commonwealth countries (e.g. Canada, Australia), Dubai and Helsinki; 45 kg on all other routes. Bags above the limit must be shipped as cargo. For flights departing overseas, overweight fees follow the per-country rates listed in the 'Extra checked bags' category.

FAQ
Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?
Yes, if your ticket starts with 876 and the flight is operated by Sichuan Airlines (3U). Go to the purchase page at flights.sichuanair.com (or sichuanair.com → '服务大厅' Service Hall → '预付费(额外)行李购买'), enter your ticket number and flight details, choose the extra weight or pieces, and pay online. The product takes effect immediately.
Where do I buy extra baggage?
Online at sichuanair.com (Service Hall → Prepaid (Extra) Baggage Purchase) or through the Sichuan Airlines mobile app / WeChat mini-program Service Hall, at airport check-in or excess baggage counters, or with the help of the sales hotline 95378.
When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?
Prepaid baggage can be purchased from when the product opens for sale until 6 hours before the scheduled departure time, and only before check-in. If you have already checked in, you must cancel check-in first before buying online.
How does Sichuan Airlines calculate extra baggage charges?
Domestic China routes are weight-based: excess baggage at the airport costs 1.5% of the one-way direct economy published fare per kg, while prepaid online packages are sold in 5 kg steps from 5 to 50 kg. International and regional routes are piece-based: departures from mainland China are divided into three fee zones (Zone 1 CNY 500/1,000, Zone 2 CNY 1,000/2,000, Zone 3 CNY 1,300/2,600 for the 1st/2nd+ piece), and departures from overseas follow per-country fees. Prepaid online prices are tiered by route and displayed at checkout.
Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?
Yes. The official promotion states prepaid baggage costs from 20% less than airport rates ('预付费行李安心购,超额超件8折起'). Online sales close 6 hours before departure; after that, excess baggage can only be paid for at the airport counter at the standard excess rates.
How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?
Domestic China: one prepaid weight package per ticket per segment, up to 50 kg per piece and 40×60×100 cm per bag. International and regional: up to 5 extra pieces per segment, each up to 23 kg (economy) and 158 cm total dimensions. Single checked pieces must not exceed 32 kg on routes to/from the UK, Commonwealth countries, Dubai or Helsinki, and 45 kg on other routes.
What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?
Overweight and oversized fees are charged at the airport counter and cannot be bought online. Overweight fees apply from 23-32 kg and 32-45 kg per piece (e.g. CNY 500-2,600 depending on zone); oversized fees apply to bags of 159-300 cm total dimensions (CNY 500-1,300 per piece depending on zone). Bags over 300 cm or over the 32/45 kg single-piece limit must be shipped as cargo.
Do codeshare or partner-operated flights have different baggage rules?
Yes. The prepaid baggage product only applies to tickets starting with 876 on flights actually operated by Sichuan Airlines (3U). For codeshare flights, the free baggage allowance follows the rules of the operating carrier, and prepaid baggage cannot be transferred to another airline's flight.
Can I get a refund for prepaid baggage if I cancel or change my booking?
Before check-in, an unused prepaid baggage product can be refunded at the original purchase channel with no fee, but only as a whole package (partial refunds per piece or per kg are not possible). After check-in it is not refundable, and it does not apply after a ticket change. If the unused product was caused by Sichuan Airlines (flight cancellation, return, diversion or aircraft change), a fee-free refund is available at the original channel.
Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?
Only tickets starting with 876 on 3U-operated flights are eligible, and some origin airports do not yet support prepaid baggage (check routes via 95378). For China-international connecting itineraries with a transit stay under 24 hours, the extra allowance only needs to be bought for the international segment. An invoice for the purchase can be requested within 30 days after travel by calling 95378.
