FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Prepaid baggage can be bought during booking or afterwards in My Page > My Reservations > ancillary service management, and via the Jin Air customer service center, up to 4 hours before departure.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Buy it on jinair.com in My Page > My Reservations > ancillary service management, through the Jin Air customer service center (domestic 1600-6200 / 02-6099-1200, overseas +82-2-6099-1200), or at the airport on the travel day. Agency-issued tickets that cannot be processed online must go through the service center or the ticket seller.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Prepaid baggage must be bought and cancelled at least 4 hours before departure; within 4 hours of departure prepaid purchase and refunds are unavailable. Prepaid baggage cannot be changed — cancel it and buy again.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Weight-concept routes (domestic, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Mongolia) are charged per 5 kg package prepaid or per 1 kg at the airport. Guam routes use the piece concept and are charged per extra piece. Connecting itineraries have their own per-5-kg (or per-piece for Guam) through-fares valid only for transfers within 24 hours.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Prepaid online/service-center rates are about a quarter to a third cheaper than airport per-kg rates (for example domestic KRW 10,000 per 5 kg prepaid, i.e. KRW 2,000/kg, vs KRW 3,000 per 1 kg at the airport; Southeast Asia KRW 65,000 per 5 kg prepaid, i.e. KRW 13,000/kg, vs KRW 18,000 per 1 kg at the airport). Carry-on bags gate-checked at the boarding gate attract a separate handling fee from KRW 10,000 domestically and KRW 30,000 internationally for the first bag.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Checked: 15 kg within 203 cm total on most routes; Guam 2 pieces up to 23 kg each within 158 cm per piece. Carry-on: 1 piece up to 10 kg (12 kg on selected Jeju, Guam, Phuket, Da Nang and Cebu routes) within 115 cm total. No single checked bag may exceed 32 kg — overweight bags must be split and repacked. No more than 3 bags per person can be gate-checked.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

A single checked bag must not exceed 32 kg and should stay within 203 cm total dimensions; bags over 203 cm may be refused. Sports equipment over 203 cm total pays a KRW 10,000 base fee per item plus excess charges beyond the free allowance, and equipment over 32 kg or 292 cm total cannot be accepted as checked baggage. These are fee and acceptance rules; overweight and oversized items are not sold as online prepaid products.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Excess baggage on itineraries ticketed together with other airlines cannot be prepaid online; it can only be bought at the airport on the travel day at separate rates.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Prepaid baggage is refundable only until 4 hours before departure, and it is not refunded when the ticket itself is refunded. If the reservation is changed more than 4 hours before departure, prepaid baggage transfers automatically to the new itinerary. Under US DOT rules, excess baggage fees on US arriving/departing flights are refunded if the bag arrives delayed 15 hours (flights of 12 hours or less) or 30 hours (flights over 12 hours).

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Gate-check handling fees do not apply on Gimpo/Cheongju/Gwangju/Busan–Jeju and on Incheon–Guam/Phuket and Busan–Guam/Da Nang/Cebu. Sports equipment not packed in a hard case and unpacked musical instruments are carried at the passenger's risk and damage is not compensated.
