When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Online prepaid baggage must be bought at least 1 hour before departure and the ticket must not yet be checked in. Prepaid allowance follows a 'no refund for unused weight, pay the difference for excess' rule.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Online prepaid baggage is sold in weight packages (5/10/15/20/30/40 kg) with a per-kg rate set by distance band: CNY 12/kg under 800 km, CNY 16/kg for 800–1600 km, CNY 20/kg above 1600 km. Airport excess is charged per kg at CNY 15/20/25 for the same bands. International self-operated routes (Bangkok, Nha Trang, Hong Kong) use fixed per-piece excess fees instead.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Domestic: each checked piece must not exceed 50 kg or 40×60×100 cm; anything above needs prior airline approval. International self-operated routes: business max 45 kg per piece, economy max 32 kg per piece; pieces with length+width+height over 203 cm are refused. Carry-on that exceeds the free limit can be bought at the gate for CNY 240 per piece (max 20×40×55 cm).

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. In the same distance band the online prepaid per-kg rate is 20% below the airport excess rate (e.g. CNY 12/kg online vs CNY 15/kg at the airport for flights under 800 km). Excess weight beyond a prepaid package is charged at the airport counter with no online discount.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Domestic airport excess is CNY 15/20/25 per kg by distance band. International routes charge fixed fees: e.g. Bangkok/Nha Trang first extra bag CNY 800, second and additional bags CNY 1,100; overweight and oversize pieces CNY 800–1,100 each, and fees stack when a piece exceeds more than one limit. These are airport-paid fees, not online products.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Unused prepaid baggage can be refunded but only as a whole order (no partial refunds); partially used packages are non-refundable, via the original purchase channel. If the ticket is changed, the prepaid allowance does not move automatically — call 95334 to transfer it to the new ticket or request a refund. If the ticket is endorsed to another carrier, the prepaid allowance is refunded as a cancellation via 95334.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Online prepaid baggage is domestic-only (international flights excluded), is valid as checked baggage only, cannot be pooled or shared with other passengers, and the free allowance varies by fare class — discount fares (V/N/A/U/T and similar) include no free checked baggage. Infants have no free checked allowance but may check one folding stroller or bassinet free.
