FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Prepaid extra baggage (行李易购) can be bought on the official website or the WeChat public account, either together with the ticket or afterwards via My Orders > Additional Services, or via Self Service > baggage zone for tickets bought elsewhere.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Buy it on cdal.com.cn (at booking, via My Orders > Additional Services > 行李易购, or via Self Service > 行李易购专区) or on the official WeChat public account. Enter your name, ID number, ticket number, flight number, date and phone number, agree to the checked baggage and product terms, then query and pay.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Buy before check-in and at least 90 minutes before departure. At the airport, tell the counter staff that you bought the prepaid product online and confirm whether to use it.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Prepaid extra baggage (行李易购) uses weight packages in 2 kg steps up to 20 kg with route-differentiated prices shown on the website. Anything above the free allowance paid at the airport is charged as overweight baggage: on domestic flights 1.5% of the one-way full adult economy fare per extra kilogram; on international flights fixed per-piece, overweight and oversize fees apply and stack when more than one limit is exceeded.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Prepaid extra baggage is sold in 2 kg steps with a maximum of 20 kg per purchase, and the same passenger on the same flight may buy the product repeatedly. Each checked piece must not exceed 50 kg or 40×60×100 cm; a single piece over 300 cm total dimensions or 50 kg must go as cargo. Companion passengers on the same flight to the same destination checking in together may pool their free allowances.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

On domestic flights, overweight baggage costs 1.5% of the one-way full adult economy fare per extra kilogram. On international flights, overweight of 23-32 kg costs CNY 1000, overweight over 32-45 kg costs CNY 2000, and oversize of 159-300 cm total dimensions costs CNY 1000; fees stack when weight, size and piece limits are exceeded at the same time.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

The prepaid product only works on tickets starting with 811 operated by Chengdu Airlines (EU flights); OPEN and standby tickets are excluded, and codeshare, through and connecting itineraries follow the operating carrier's standard. Product bought from Chengdu Airlines cannot be endorsed to another airline.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Before departure with the ticket not checked in, or after cancelling check-in, a full refund is available via the original purchase channel; after departure a refund is possible once the ticket itself is refunded, and never after the ticket has been flown. Refunds are valid within 12 months of purchase. Date changes require refunding the product first and repurchasing, with any fare difference borne by the passenger.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

The product is valid for the current flight only and cannot be reused; if checked baggage is below the free plus purchased total, the unused part is not refunded, and any excess above it is charged at the airport overweight rate. Some routes do not support the product — availability is confirmed at query time. Precision instruments, musical instruments and live-animal fees do not count toward the free allowance.
