FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. You can pre-book checked baggage online when you make a booking or afterwards, up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time, via Purchases on the AirAsia MOVE website or app, or via Chat with Bo.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Pre-book on the AirAsia MOVE website or app through Purchases, via Chat with Bo, or at airport counters and airport sales offices. Pre-booking online is the cheapest channel.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Online pre-booking (website, app or Chat with Bo) stays open until 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. The 4-hour boundary applies only at airport counters: buying there at least 4 hours ahead still gets the pre-book rate, while closer to departure the higher prevailing airport fee applies.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Checked baggage is sold in weight tiers from 15 kg to 60 kg per guest per way, charged per person per sector. Fees are quoted in the departure country's currency and the published table values are maximums; actual prices may vary by travel period but never exceed the published figures.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Pre-booking online saves up to 80% compared with airport counter charges. At the airport, the pre-book rate still applies if you buy at least 4 hours before departure; otherwise the higher prevailing airport fee applies.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Each guest can buy up to 60 kg of checked baggage per way. Any single bag must not exceed 32 kg or 119 cm (H) x 81 cm (W) x 119 cm (L), and items over 32 kg are not accepted. The 50 kg and 60 kg tiers have limited units per flight and may be unavailable on some routes. Cabin baggage is limited to 7 kg total across two pieces, extendable to 14 kg with Xtra Carry-On.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Baggage above your purchased allowance is charged per kilogram at the airport on the day of travel: THB 300 per kg on domestic FD routes and THB 510 per kg on international FD routes, billed in the departure country's currency. Excess fees can only be paid at airport check-in, not online. Oversized handling is governed by the 32 kg per-bag and 119 cm x 81 cm x 119 cm limits rather than a separate published oversized fee.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Once baggage weight has been purchased, it is non-refundable. You can still upgrade (e.g., from 20 kg to 25 kg or more) later, up to 2 hours before departure.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Checked baggage and sports equipment allowances cannot be combined, so sports items need a sports equipment allowance. Pooling or sharing of baggage allowances is only allowed for guests on the same booking number checking in together. Baby strollers, wheelchairs, mobility devices, crutches and walking frames travel free as checked baggage when in use by the travelling infant, child, elderly or disabled guest. One 15 kg surfboard per traveller is free under the Free Surfboard Policy.
