Accepted Answer

Yes. Additional checked baggage can be bought on tarom.ro during ticket purchase or later via "My Booking" / the "Additional Baggage" page by entering your last name and reservation code. It can also be purchased through the TAROM Call Center, any TAROM agency or partner travel agency.

Pay online at least 48 hours before departure to get the discounted rate (33% off in Zone 1, 27% in Zone 2, 28% in Zone 3). After that window, the standard table rates apply.

How does TAROM calculate extra baggage charges?

Accepted Answer

Charges are per piece in EUR and depend on the fare zone: Zone 1 (Romania domestic), Zone 2 (Europe and the Middle East), Zone 3 (worldwide). Extra checked baggage fares apply per travel direction or flight leg, and numeric, overweight and oversized charges are added together when more than one applies to the same piece.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Accepted Answer

Yes - prepaying online at least 48 h before departure saves 27-33% compared with the standard rates. At Henri Coandă Airport (Otopeni), cash is not accepted for excess baggage since 1 May 2026; pay by bank card or contactless.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Economy tickets include 1 free checked bag of max 23 kg and 158 cm (Business: 2 bags of max 32 kg each); LIGHT fares include no checked bag. An extra standard piece is max 23 kg / 158 cm, and the maximum number of pieces per passenger is 3 on ATR 72 aircraft and 10 on Boeing 737 aircraft.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

A piece weighing 24 kg or more counts as overweight (fractions between 23 and 24 kg are disregarded). Overweight up to 32 kg costs EUR 50/100/200 by zone; oversized (over 158 cm total dimensions) costs EUR 50/100/200 by zone and needs TAROM authorization. Pieces over 32 kg or over 203 cm are accepted only in cargo regime.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The excess rules apply only to flights operated by TAROM on its own aircraft; on codeshare flights the operating partner's rules may apply. If TAROM is the first operator on the route, its excess fees apply for the sectors where baggage is checked in, and other carriers may charge excess baggage as well.

Can I pay for extra baggage with cards?

Accepted Answer

Online purchase is paid by bank card. Since 1 May 2026, at Henri Coandă Airport (Bucharest Otopeni), excess baggage and service fees can only be paid electronically - bank card or contactless, no cash.
