FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes, but only during the flight reservation process on flysolomons.com, which gives the cheaper prepaid rate. For an existing booking, add services via Manage My Booking, or contact a Solomon Airlines Reservations office or your travel agent before the deadline.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Buy prepaid excess baggage during booking on flysolomons.com, through a Solomon Airlines Reservations office, through the travel agent who made the booking, or at the Airport Service Desk.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Prepaid excess baggage must be arranged before travel: via a Solomon Airlines office up to 24 hours before departure and via travel agents up to 6 hours before departure; at the airport, excess is accepted up to 90 minutes before departure. Present your e-ticket and electronic miscellaneous document (EMD) at check-in as proof of prepayment.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Excess baggage is charged per kilogram, with the rate depending on the route and the currency of the departure point (e.g. AUD ex Australia, SBD ex Solomon Islands). No single checked item may exceed 32 kg.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Prepaid rates are lower than airport rates on every international route (e.g. AUD 18.00/kg prepaid vs AUD 22.00/kg at the airport ex Brisbane; SBD 80.00/kg prepaid vs SBD 100.00/kg at the airport ex Honiara).

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Checked allowance is 30 kg in International Economy (40 kg Belama Plus/Flexible), 40 kg in International Business (50 kg Belama Plus) and 16 kg in Domestic Economy. No single checked item may exceed 32 kg; anything heavier must be sent as cargo. Passengers on the same booking who check in together on the same flight may pool their excess allowance.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Items with total dimensions over 158 cm up to 277 cm (e.g. surfboards, scuba tanks, guitars) pay a per-port bulky-item fee plus the applicable excess weight rate. Any piece over 277 cm total dimensions cannot travel as baggage and must be sent as freight.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Prepaid and published excess rates apply to Solomon Airlines (IE) ticketed and operated flights only. For codeshare or interline itineraries, the operating carrier's rates apply, and passengers holding two separate tickets are not eligible for prepaid excess baggage.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Prepaid excess baggage is non-refundable, and unused purchased weight is not refundable, transferable or exchangeable. Exceptions: if you hold a refundable ticket and refund the ticket, the excess fee is refunded with it; and if Solomon Airlines cannot carry your prepaid baggage due to disruption, aircraft change or operational/safety reasons.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Sporting equipment (surfboards, scuba gear, golf clubs, bicycles) earns an extra 7 kg of checked allowance on Solomon Airlines operated flights. Children pay the same excess rate as adults. Bicycles must travel in a bike box with tyres deflated and pedals removed.
