FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Purchase excess baggage online through 'Manage My Booking' on mea.com.lb or through the MEA App under 'Modify Your Flight'. Online purchase is not available for flights from/to Copenhagen and Dusseldorf.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Buy excess baggage online via Manage My Booking on mea.com.lb or the MEA App, or offline at MEA sales offices, call centers and airports. Pieces weighing 23-30 kg arriving to Beirut can only be purchased offline.

How does MEA calculate extra baggage charges?

MEA uses a piece system on most routes: excess baggage is charged per additional piece up to 23 kg, with a separate rate for pieces weighing 23-30 kg. On African routes a weight system applies and excess baggage is charged per kg. Rates are quoted in the currency of the route (USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, JOD or EGP).

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Online rates are lower than offline rates. For example, an additional piece up to 23 kg from Beirut to Cairo costs 150 USD offline (sales offices, call center, airports) but 100 USD online, and from Beirut to most other destinations 75 USD offline / 50 USD online.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Maximum weight of each checked piece on MEA-operated flights is 30 kg — heavier pieces cannot be accepted. Checked baggage must not exceed 158 cm total dimensions (70 x 50 x 38 cm) including pockets, wheels and handles. Carry-on allowance is one piece up to 10 kg with a maximum of 115 cm total dimensions.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Pieces weighing 23-30 kg are charged the 'Piece between 23KG and 30KG' rate shown in the excess baggage tables instead of the standard 23 kg piece rate. A piece heavier than 30 kg is not accepted on MEA-operated flights. Checked baggage exceeding 158 cm total dimensions exceeds the published size limit.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Yes. The published excess baggage rates apply only to Middle East Airlines operated flights. For codeshare flights and travel to/from the USA, the allowance may vary depending on the airlines participating in the itinerary; check the baggage policy of the transatlantic or operating airline.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Online excess baggage purchase is not available for flights from/to Copenhagen and Dusseldorf. Berlin and Amsterdam are offline-only for extra pieces (effective 01 July 2026). Rates apply to Middle East Airlines operated flights only.
