FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online?

There is no self-service online purchase. Extra baggage must be requested when you buy your ticket, or after purchase by contacting the office or agent where you bought it, calling +976-11-333999, or emailing [email protected] with your ticket number.

Where do I request extra baggage?

Request it when purchasing your ticket (miat.com, MIAT offices, or travel agents). After purchase, use MIAT's 24-hour call center (+976-11-333999) or email [email protected].

What is the free baggage allowance?

Economy: 1 piece / 23 kg. Business: 2 pieces / 32 kg. Infants: 10 kg. Carry-on: 1 piece of 8 kg (economy) or 12 kg (business); max 115 cm total dimensions. Checked bags must not exceed 158 cm total dimensions. One child stroller or car seat is carried free of charge.

When should I request extra baggage?

MIAT advises requesting additional baggage when you purchase your flight ticket. No online pre-booking deadline is published; after purchase, contact the call center or [email protected] before departure.

How does MIAT calculate extra baggage charges?

International routes use the IATA piece system: a flat charge per excess piece (up to 23 kg), plus separate overweight (23–32 kg) and oversize (158–203 cm total dimensions) charges. Domestic routes are weight-based at MNT 5,000/kg excluding VAT. Ulaanbaatar-originating legs are charged in MNT and inbound legs in the destination currency.

What are the overweight and oversized baggage rules?

Bags weighing 23–32 kg are charged the overweight rate, and bags with total linear dimensions of 158–203 cm are charged the oversize rate, both per route.

Do codeshare or interline flights have different baggage rules?

On segments operated by codeshare/interline partners, the most significant carrier's baggage policy applies, determined under IATA rules by the first sector that crosses IATA areas or sub-areas. On interline itineraries to the US, 2 pieces / 23 kg are free; to Europe, 1 piece / 23 kg.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions?

Only bookings made through miat.com or the MIAT mobile app can be managed through the website's 'Manage my booking' tool; bookings from other channels must be changed through the respective sales office. South Korea and Japan may require rabies vaccination verification via a microchip implanted in the pet.
