Chongqing Airlines Baggage Allowance, Fees & How to Add Extra Baggage

OQ / CQN · China

Chongqing Airlines publishes excess-baggage fee tables (domestic per-kg formula, international route-group tables) and collects the fees at airport counters; no standalone online extra-baggage purchase channel is published for OQ-operated flights. How to Add Extra Baggage & Prices on Chongqing Airlines

Buy Baggage
  1. Go to the official booking portal (b2c.chongqingairlines.cn) to manage your booking, and open 出行帮助 (Travel Help) > 行李服务 (Baggage Service) on chongqingairlines.cn to confirm your free allowance and the excess-baggage rates for your route.
  2. Book your ticket through the official booking portal (b2c.chongqingairlines.cn) or another authorized channel and keep the ticket number.
  3. Weigh and measure each bag against the limits for your route (domestic: 50 kg and 40 × 60 × 100 cm per piece; international: 45/32 kg and 203 cm total per piece).
  4. Arrive early and check in at a Chongqing Airlines counter or self-service baggage drop with your ticket and ID; staff weigh the bags and calculate excess fees from the published tables.
  5. Pay the excess fees at the counter and keep the excess-baggage ticket as proof.
  6. For cabin-seat baggage (instruments, valuables), call 95539 or visit a Chongqing Airlines direct ticket office no later than 6 hours before departure, and pay the fare for each occupied seat after confirmation.
  7. After payment, verify the checked-baggage tags and keep the claim stubs for arrival pickup.

FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

No. The official Chongqing Airlines site publishes excess-baggage fee rules but no verified standalone online purchase entry for extra bags on OQ-operated flights. Excess fees are assessed and collected at airport check-in counters and self-service baggage drops. China Southern's online prepaid baggage product covers only CZ flights actually operated by China Southern (784 tickets), not OQ-operated flights.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Pay excess-baggage fees at Chongqing Airlines airport check-in counters or self-service baggage drops. Cabin-seat baggage must be requested at least 6 hours before departure via hotline 95539 or a Chongqing Airlines direct ticket office. Pet transport must be requested 4 hours (domestic) or 6 hours (international) before departure.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage?

There is no published online purchase deadline because no online extra-baggage product is offered for OQ flights. Cabin-seat baggage requires application no later than 6 hours before departure; pet transport 4 hours (domestic) or 6 hours (international) before departure. At the airport, check in early so excess bags can be weighed, billed and loaded.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Domestic excess is weight-based: each excess kilogram costs 0.6% of that day's full-fare adult economy one-way direct fare (segment-sum where no direct fare is published). International/regional excess is piece-based in three route groups with fixed tables in CNY, EUR or USD depending on origin (China: CNY; Europe: EUR; elsewhere: USD); exceeding allowance in two or more of piece-count, weight or size dimensions is charged cumulatively.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Domestic: each checked piece max 50 kg and max 40 × 60 × 100 cm. International/regional: US-involved itineraries max 45 kg per piece; others max 32 kg per piece; each piece max 203 cm total dimensions. Pieces above these limits must be split, shipped as special baggage, or carried as cargo.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Overweight and oversize fees are published as fee tables only (e.g. international Group 1: overweight 23–28 kg CNY 500 / EUR 75 / USD 85, 28–32 kg CNY 1,010 / EUR 145 / USD 170, 32–45 kg CNY 3,000 / EUR 435 / USD 495; oversize 159–203 cm CNY 1,000 / EUR 145 / USD 165). They are collected at airport counters and are not online-purchasable products; oversize carry-ons re-checked at the gate are billed under the same excess rules.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Codeshare flights follow the operating carrier's baggage rules (per bilateral agreements, either operating- or marketing-carrier rules apply — check the ticket display). Flights numbered CZ26xx–CZ28xx are operated by Chongqing Airlines with China Southern as contracting carrier; China Southern's online prepaid baggage product does not apply to them because it requires China Southern as actual carrier.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Discounted 精省 (Jingxing) economy fares carry one fewer free checked piece than standard discount economy (same weight/size limits); 基础 (Basic) economy fares carry no free checked allowance. Gate-checked carry-ons cannot use the free allowance or prepaid baggage — those are honored only at check-in counters. Student and labor passengers on eligible international economy/premium-economy fares get one extra piece; pets and their containers/food never count toward the free allowance.
