FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online in advance?

No. Canadian North does not sell extra baggage online in advance; extra, overweight and oversize fees are paid at the airport check-in counter when you check in.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Extra, overweight and oversize baggage fees are collected by a Customer Service Agent at the airport check-in counter. Use Manage My Trip on bookings.canadiannorth.com to manage your reservation before travelling.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Fees are in Canadian dollars (CAD), inclusive of 5-15% tax depending on itinerary. Only bags included in your fare travel as priority; additional bags travel standby. Fees are charged for each direction of a return ticket, and again each time you check in baggage at the counter when the ticket includes a stopover.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Each checked item must not exceed 50 lbs. A maximum of 3 bags can be checked at the airport counter; 4th and 5th bags must be shipped by cargo. Items over 100 lbs cannot be checked at the counter and must go by cargo. Oversize means total dimensions over 62 in (158 cm).

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Items weighing 51-100 lbs cost $172.50 per item; items over 100 lbs must be shipped by cargo. Items larger than 62 in (158 cm) total dimensions cost $230 per item. All checked baggage fees are cumulative, except overweight and oversize: if an item is both overweight and oversized, only the lower of the two fees applies.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage?

There is no online pre-purchase window. Extra bags are paid for at the airport check-in counter on the day of travel, so arrive with enough time for the agent to process them. If you are bringing more bags than the counter accepts, contact Canadian North Cargo before travel day.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

If every flight on the ticket is operated by Canadian North, Canadian North baggage rules apply. If the ticket also includes partner-operated flights and the first flight is operated by a partner (Air Canada, Air Inuit, Air North, Calm Air or WestJet), that partner's baggage guidelines, allowances and fees apply to all flights on the ticket.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Passengers travelling with infants may check a car seat or bassinet plus a fully collapsible stroller at no extra charge. Excess bags travel standby and are not guaranteed to arrive on the same flight. Aurora Concierge members should check the Aurora Rewards programme for their additional allowance.
