  1. Go to azoresairlines.pt and open the MY TRIP tab (or visit a SATA sales office or call the Contact Center).
  2. Retrieve your booking with your booking code and last name, then choose the prepaid extra baggage / additional services option.
  3. Select the extra allowance you need (up to 30 kg extra on inter-island flights, or up to 3 extra 23 kg pieces on domestic and international flights) and pay online — booking and payment are made simultaneously, no later than 48 hours before departure.
  4. Keep the payment confirmation; changes are allowed as long as the travel route stays the same, and the service is personal and non-transferable.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Bags of 23-32 kg incur an overweight fee on top of the extra-piece fee (e.g. EUR 65 domestic, EUR 75 Europe & Africa, 245 CAD / 185 USD / 135 EUR USA & Canada); when both an extra-piece and an overweight charge apply, the two amounts are summed. Oversized sports items listed below require pre-booking and pay special service fees.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Prepaid extra baggage is not available on flights to/from Africa, on codeshare flights, or on interline itineraries, and acceptance is subject to availability. On trips combining SATA Air Acores and Azores Airlines flights, Azores Airlines rules apply.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Changes to a prepaid extra baggage booking are allowed if the travel route stays the same. The service is personal and non-transferable, and refunds are not allowed except when the flight is involuntarily cancelled.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

On high-occupancy flights excess baggage may be denied or limited to one bag per passenger, so advance booking is recommended. All excess baggage requests on Boston-Praia (via Ponta Delgada) and Boston-Terceira flights are suspended from December 1, 2026 to January 14, 2027. No pets in the hold are accepted to/from North America except assistance dogs.
