FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. The Manage My Booking page offers Excess Baggage as an add-on service: retrieve your booking with your booking reference and last name and purchase additional baggage there.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Buy excess baggage in Manage My Booking on flyairlink.com using your booking reference and last name. Regional per-kg excess and Africa-Qatar interline excess are also payable at the airport.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Airlink uses the weight concept: any weight above your free allowance is charged per kilogram. Domestic flights cost ZAR 38 per kg plus VAT per sector; regional flights use fixed per-kg USD rates that differ by destination and direction of travel. Africa-Qatar interline itineraries use a piece concept with fixed USD fees per additional bag.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

No single checked piece may exceed 32 kg. Standard checked pieces must fit within 90 x 72 x 45 cm (207 cm total); bulky items up to 190 x 75 x 65 cm are accepted but may attract excess charges. Only regular-shaped bags with at least one flat surface are permitted; oversized items must go as cargo via Airlink Cargo.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Airlink publishes no general online cut-off time; excess baggage can be added through Manage My Booking after booking. Sporting equipment needs airline approval no less than 72 hours before departure.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

There is no separate overweight or oversize fee on Airlink-operated flights: weight above the free allowance is charged at the standard excess rates, and no single piece may exceed 32 kg. On Africa-Qatar itineraries a USD 75 overweight fee (bags 23-32 kg) and USD 75 oversized fee (158-300 cm) apply.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

On interline tickets the baggage policy of the Most Significant Carrier applies per direction of travel (IATA Resolution 302). On Africa-Qatar itineraries a piece concept applies with airport-paid USD fees, and QR ground staff may ask for proof of payment, so keep the receipt.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

All excess baggage purchases are non-refundable, whether or not the excess allowance is used.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Hold space on Airlink's smaller aircraft may be restricted on full flights or in certain weather, in which case baggage may travel on the next available flight. Sporting equipment beyond the free 15 kg allowance and items exceeding maximum dimensions cannot always be carried as excess and may have to go as cargo.
