FAQ
Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?
Yes. You can add a checked bag, an extra bag or sports equipment online through the My Booking portal (enter your booking reference and last name), or on the Extras page while completing a new booking.
Where do I buy extra baggage?
Buy it online in My Booking at flysafair.co.za, by phone on 087 357 0030 (a R200 service fee applies), or at the airport at check-in, where the first checked bag costs R350 instead of the R155 online rate.
Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?
Yes, for the first checked bag: R155 online versus R350 at the airport. The second 20kg bag costs R250 both online and at the airport. The call centre charges the same prices as online plus a R200 service fee.
What are the bag limits for FlySafair flights?
Each checked bag may weigh up to 20kg and measure up to 90 x 75 x 43 cm. A 20kg checked bag is sold one piece per booking, and a second 20kg bag can be added as extra luggage if you already have checked luggage on the booking. Every fare includes one free carry-on bag up to 7kg (56 x 36 x 23 cm) plus one small personal item (40 x 15 x 20 cm).
When is the best time to buy extra baggage online?
FlySafair does not publish a specific online cutoff time, but bags bought online in advance cost R155 versus R350 at the airport, so add your bag before arriving at the airport to get the cheaper rate.
How does FlySafair calculate extra baggage charges?
FlySafair charges flat per-bag fees rather than weight-based scaling: R155 for the first 20kg checked bag online (R350 at the airport), R250 for a second 20kg bag, R285 per sports equipment item, and a flat R250 heavy-bag fee for any bag over 20kg.
What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?
Any checked bag over 20kg attracts a fixed heavy-bag fee of R250 per piece at the airport, and bags over 32kg must be sent as cargo at your own expense. Carry-on bags over 7kg are charged R350 at the airport, and oversized cabin bags may attract a fine at the boarding gate.
Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?
An extra bag can only be added if you already have checked luggage in your basket or on your booking. FlySafair does not transport live animals. Firearms (R1,150) must be booked at least 72 hours before travel and are limited to Standard/Premium fares on selected domestic routes.
