How to Add Extra Baggage & Prices on Philippines AirAsia

Buy Baggage
  1. Go to airasia.com and complete your flight booking, adding a checked baggage weight tier (15-60 kg) during initial booking for the cheapest rate — you may choose different weights for departing and returning flights.
  2. To add or upgrade baggage after booking, open Purchases on the AirAsia MOVE website or app (or start a chat with Bo and type 'Purchase Add-ons'), available up to 2 hours before scheduled departure.
  3. Select 'Baggage', choose the weight tier you need (up to 60 kg per guest per way), and complete payment — purchased baggage is non-refundable.
  4. If you did not pre-book, buy at an airport kiosk, check-in counter or sales office; buying at least 4 hours before departure still gets the pre-book rate, otherwise prevailing airport fees apply.

FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Add checked baggage during initial booking on airasia.com, or upgrade afterwards via Purchases on the AirAsia MOVE website/app or by chatting with Bo, up to 2 hours before scheduled departure. Each guest can hold up to 60 kg per way.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

On airasia.com during or after booking, via Purchases on the AirAsia MOVE website or app, via the Bo chatbot ('Purchase Add-ons'), at airport kiosks, or at airport check-in counters and sales offices. You may pre-book different weights for departing and returning flights.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Online upgrades close 2 hours before scheduled departure. The cheapest rate is during initial booking; at the airport you still get the pre-book rate if you buy at least 4 hours before departure, otherwise prevailing airport fees apply.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. AirAsia advertises savings of up to 80% for pre-booking versus airport counter rates. Example on Z2 domestic: 20 kg costs PHP 780 during initial booking online versus PHP 1,800 at the airport counter first-20-kg rate; kiosk rates are close to airport-counter levels (PHP 1,800 for 20 kg domestic at both kiosk and counter).

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Up to 60 kg per guest per way; one checked baggage allowance per booking per flight. No single bag may exceed 32 kg or 119 cm (H) x 81 cm (W) x 119 cm (L). 50 kg and 60 kg tiers have limited units per flight and can sell out. Cabin baggage is limited to 2 pieces totalling 7 kg.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Weight-based tiers (15/20/25/30/40/50/60 kg domestic; 10-60 kg international) priced per guest per sector in PHP. The fee table states maximum amounts: actual prices may be lower depending on travel period but never higher. Separate tables apply to domestic and international Z2 routes.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Baggage above your allowance is charged per kg at the airport on the day of travel: PHP 450/kg domestic, PHP 800/kg international (Z2), billed in the departure country's currency and per guest/per kg/per way on connections. Oversize cabin bags taken at the gate are charged Gate Baggage rates (PHP 2,200 domestic, PHP 2,750 international). Excess fees cannot be pre-booked online.

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?

Once baggage weight has been purchased, it is non-refundable. Allowance pooling or sharing is only permitted for guests on the same itinerary (booking number) checking in baggage together.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Value Pack, Premium Flex and Premium Flatbed fares already include a checked baggage allowance. Sports equipment needs a separate sports allowance (1 x 15 kg surfboard is free under the Free Surfboard Policy). All Z2 fees are charged per sector, so connecting journeys pay per stop.
