Steps

  1. Go to www.airtanzania.co.tz and click 'VIEW MY BOOKING' (or open 'My Trip' from the menu).
  2. Enter your booking PNR and surname, then click 'View Booking'.
  3. In Manage My Booking, select 'Pay in advance for excess baggage' for your flight.
  4. Choose the excess baggage option you need and review the applicable charge.
  5. Complete payment and keep the confirmation email as proof of your purchased baggage allowance.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Excess weight above the free allowance is charged per kilogram (USD 8.00 within Africa, USD 15.00 between Africa and Asia, TZS 8,000 domestic). Special items such as bicycles, golf, fishing or diving equipment require advance reservation with the Air Tanzania Cargo office (+255 754 334 898) and a handling fee applies. Firearms and ammunition are not allowed on the airline's aircraft.

What payment methods are accepted?

Credit and debit cards, mobile payment, or payment at an Air Tanzania sales office. Fares and charges are quoted in Tanzanian Shillings or US Dollars.

Can I get a refund for extra baggage if I change or cancel my booking?

The airline does not publish a specific refund policy for prepaid excess baggage. Only bookings purchased directly from airtanzania.co.tz can be modified or refunded through Manage My Booking; bookings made via travel agents must be handled by the agent.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions?

Fish buckets are charged as special baggage on domestic routes (10L TZS 23,000 / 20L TZS 30,000) and are issued at the airport only. A passenger's own wheelchair is free except on flights from Mumbai (USD 30) and Dubai (USD 90). Valued items such as gold, jewellery, laptops and cash are not accepted as checked baggage.
