How to Add Extra Baggage & Prices on Air Tahiti

Buy Baggage
  1. Go to airtahiti.com and open the Checked baggage page to review the free allowance and find the excess-baggage fare calculator.
  2. In the calculator, select your departure island, arrival island, departure date and extra weight in kilograms, then click Calculate the fare and note the advance-agency and check-in-counter rates.
  3. Retrieve your booking in Manage my booking with your family name plus your booking or ticket number, then choose the option to complete your file and purchase services; alternatively reserve and pay the excess in advance at an Air Tahiti agency to lock in the lower rate.
  4. If you skip advance purchase, pay the higher counter rate when checking in with a payment card, local cheque, or cash in Pacific francs (XPF).
  5. Keep your baggage receipt until you collect your bags at your destination; if the hold is full, excess baggage may arrive on a later flight.

Prices

FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Retrieve your booking in Manage my booking with your family name plus your booking or ticket number, then complete your file and purchase services. Advance excess can also be reserved and paid at an Air Tahiti agency; otherwise you pay at the check-in counter.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

On airtahiti.com via Manage my booking, in advance at Air Tahiti agencies, or at the check-in counter. Check the exact fare first with the excess-baggage calculator on the Checked baggage page.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Excess is charged per kilogram over the free allowance at a route-specific rate in Pacific francs (XPF, shown as F on the site), tax included. Paying in advance at an agency is cheaper than paying at the counter; on a few routes such as Papeete - Nuku Hiva only the counter rate exists.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

No fixed purchase deadline is published. The lower advance rate requires reserving and paying at an Air Tahiti agency before check-in (or buying services in Manage my booking ahead of departure); once check-in opens, only the higher counter rate remains.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes, advance purchase costs less. Sampled one-way fares per kg: Papeete - Moorea XPF 190 in advance vs XPF 240 at the counter, Papeete - Bora Bora XPF 330 vs XPF 460, Papeete - Rangiroa XPF 360 vs XPF 470. A few long-haul routes offer no advance rate.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

There is no published cap on how many extra kilograms you can buy; excess is accepted subject to flight availability and may travel on a later flight when the hold is full. Size and weight ceilings still apply: standard ticket 23 kg per passenger with length + width + height under 158 cm; Premium cabin 2 bags of 23 kg each. Cabin: 1 bag plus 1 accessory (Economy 5 kg, Premium 10 kg; 7 kg to Rarotonga in Economy). Bags over 32 kg or 158 cm must go through the Freight service, and non-compliant cabin bags are checked with limited release.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Weight above the allowance is billed per kilogram at the route rate. Bags over 25 kg or exceeding the size limits fall under sports and special baggage handling; anything over 32 kg or 158 cm in total dimensions must be checked in with the Air Tahiti Freight service rather than as regular baggage.

Can I pay for extra baggage with cards, loyalty points, or miles?

At check-in, Air Tahiti accepts payment cards, local cheques, and cash in Pacific francs (XPF).

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Divers receive an extra 5 kg allowance on 12 named islands with proof of diving, subject to flight availability. Excess baggage may travel on a later flight when the hold is full. Babies receive a 5 kg checked allowance plus one cabin bag.
