FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

No. The airline states on its Conditions of carriage page that excess or outsized baggage cannot currently be paid for online, though an online service is planned.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Pay for excess baggage at the airport check-in counter or ticket office. Oversized or overweight items need the airline's approval in advance, so contact Somon Air or your ticket office before flying.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

There is no online pre-purchase deadline because online purchase is not offered. Just arrive with enough time at check-in; oversized or overweight baggage must be agreed with the airline beforehand.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Most routes use the weight concept: every kilogram above the free allowance (20 kg economy / 30 kg business) is charged at a per-kilogram excess rate that depends on the route and direction. The Urumqi (China) route uses the piece concept instead, with fixed fees per extra piece.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Free allowance is 20 kg in economy and 30 kg in business on most routes; the Urumqi route instead allows 1 piece of 23 kg in economy and 1 piece of 32 kg in business. Cabin hand baggage is limited to 7 kg in economy and 10 kg in business with max dimensions 55 x 40 x 25 cm. Children under 2 travelling without a seat have no free baggage allowance.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Baggage exceeding the free allowance is charged at the route's excess per-kilogram rate, except on the Urumqi route where extra pieces carry fixed per-piece fees (the per-kilo rate there applies to overweight kilos). Oversized or overweight baggage is only accepted with the airline's approval and the carrier may refuse it. Ski equipment and bicycles travel as oversized baggage charged per kilogram at the excess rate. An item of up to 75 kg carried on a separate cabin seat requires buying a separate ticket.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

If your flight is operated by a partner airline, the free baggage allowance may differ from Somon Air's standard 20/30 kg. In that case expect roughly two pieces totalling 30 kg in business (no single piece over 23 kg) or one piece up to 20 kg in economy.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Passengers on Jeddah routes may additionally carry one 5-litre bottle of Zam Zam water. Sport equipment is included in the free allowance; any kilos above it are charged at the excess rate. A declared-value fee applies if you declare a baggage value above the carrier's liability limit.
