FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. If you already have a ticket, log in to 'Manage Booking' on kuwaitairways.com and add the Prepaid Excess Baggage service up to 24 hours before departure. You can also buy it during a new booking through the website, mobile web, or app.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Prepaid Excess Baggage can be purchased online, via mobile, through the Kuwait Airways app, at any Kuwait Airways office, or by calling the call centre (171). Prepaid purchases are not available through Web Check-In. For partner or codeshare flights, excess baggage is paid at the airport at check-in.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Prepaid Excess Baggage can be added to your booking up to 24 hours before your scheduled departure time on eligible routes. After that, excess baggage can only be paid at the airport at check-in at the non-discounted rate.

How does Kuwait Airways calculate extra baggage charges?

Kuwait Airways uses piece-based pricing for excess baggage. Each additional piece is charged a fixed KWD rate that depends on the origin and destination regions (Kuwait, GCC, Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent, Europe, Far East, USA). Prepaid rates apply per additional piece; there are no pre-paid rates for overweight or oversized bags.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Buying Prepaid Excess Baggage through the website, app, mobile, call centre (171), or a Kuwait Airways office gives a 15% discount over the normal excess baggage rate charged at the check-in counter. Airport charges are paid in local currency at the exchange rate on the day of purchase.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Each passenger can purchase a maximum of four additional pieces at a time, subject to aircraft type. Each piece must not exceed 32 kg. Maximum dimensions are 158 cm (L+W+H) for Economy and Business and 250 cm for Royal and First. Prepaid Excess Baggage is not available for infants.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Overweight and oversized charges are paid only at the airport at check-in — there are no pre-paid rates for them. On piece-concept routes, a bag weighing 23–32 kg (50–70 lb) can be paid as overweight at check-in. Charges apply per piece irrespective of the free baggage allowance, and each piece has an absolute maximum of 32 kg. Items larger than the permissible maximum dimensions require separate shipping as cargo.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Prepaid Excess Baggage applies only to Kuwait Airways operated flights, and certain routes are not eligible — check via Manage Booking, call 171, or contact a Kuwait Airways office. It cannot be purchased for on-hold bookings, tickets issued by other airlines, or infants without a seat, and it is not available through Web Check-In.

Can I get a refund if I cancel or change my booking?

Prepaid Excess Baggage payments are non-refundable, but if unused they can be utilized on any Kuwait Airways flight within one year from the date of issue. For involuntary changes such as flight cancellation, refunds may be available: email [email protected] for website/app bookings, contact the issuing office for office/call-centre bookings, or your travel agent for agent-issued tickets. For flights to/from the USA that are cancelled or significantly delayed (more than 6 hours), unused prepaid baggage is refunded if you choose not to fly.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Yes. For partner airline flights, excess baggage can only be paid at check-in at the airport. On codeshare flights, excess baggage charges follow the operating carrier's policy, and free baggage allowance follows the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) rules.
