Excess weight (23-32 kg)

Excess weight is charged when a piece weighs more than 23 kg and up to 32 kg. BoA publishes only an airport-payment rate (on the day of departure) for excess weight; there is no prepaid rate, so this is fee/rule information only, paid at the airport. Net amounts are in BOB when payment is made in Bolivia and USD otherwise (EUR for flights from Spain).

FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes — additional pieces can be prepaid at the discounted prepaid rate instead of paying the higher airport rate. Manage your reservation through the booking engine on boa.bo (Book Status / My flights), which requires your last name and booking locator.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Prepaid additional pieces are arranged before departure through BoA's channels (the booking engine on boa.bo and BoA sales channels). Otherwise, additional pieces and excess weight are paid at the airport check-in counter on the day of departure at the higher airport rate.

How does BoA calculate extra baggage charges?

Separate tables apply for excess weight (a piece over 23 kg up to 32 kg) and for additional pieces. The fee depends mainly on the route and on whether payment is made in Bolivia or abroad; for flights from Spain, net amounts are quoted in EUR.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. The prepaid rate is lower on every route; for example, an extra piece within Bolivia is BOB 85 prepaid vs BOB 100 at the airport, and a 1st additional piece from Bolivia to South America is USD 35 prepaid vs USD 40 at the airport.

What are the baggage limits?

Each checked piece must not exceed 158 cm (length + height + width) and the free allowance is up to 23 kg per piece. Free checked pieces depend on the fare: 0-2 pieces on domestic Economy, and 2-4 pieces on international/Business fares. If you carry more than three additional pieces, the 3rd-piece rate applies to each further piece.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

BoA does not publish a fixed deadline. The prepaid rate applies when the piece is arranged before departure; the airport rate applies on the day of departure, and excess weight is only payable at the airport.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Excess weight is charged when a piece exceeds 23 kg up to 32 kg, at the airport-payment rate only (e.g., BOB 70 within Bolivia, USD 35-90 on international routes). Pieces over 158 cm linear are not covered as standard checked baggage.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

For itineraries originating in the United States under an interline agreement, the baggage policy of the airline operating the first segment applies, in accordance with ATA regulations. For interline itineraries originating outside Madrid, additional charges may apply according to the operating airline's conditions.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Excess baggage (XBAG) accepted at check-in is subject to storage availability and may be delivered up to 7 days after your trip; you must sign a liability waiver. Flights departing from Spain (from December 12, 2025) restrict irregularly shaped baggage, flexible fabric bundles and soft plastic bags with a spherical or circular form.

Can I pay for extra baggage with cards or online payments?

BoA's website accepts online banking, QR, debit/credit cards, Tigo Money, PayPal and payment links. The contact center, self-service kiosks and cash are also available depending on the country of purchase.
