FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Buy prepaid (advance purchase) excess baggage online through the Manage Booking portal, or pay the per-kg excess rate at the airport check-in counter.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

On the official excess-baggage page click the 'Excess Baggage' booking link, which opens bookme.allianceair.in/manage-booking; retrieve your reservation with your booking code (PNR) and last name, then add prepaid baggage. Airport check-in counters also sell excess allowance at the higher per-kg rate.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Prepaid excess must be bought in advance of travel through Manage Booking; the airline publishes no explicit cutoff time. Anything unpaid at departure is charged at the higher airport per-kg rate.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Domestic prepaid works out to INR 630 per kg (INR 3,150 per 5 kg) versus INR 700 per kg at the airport; international ex-India prepaid works out to INR 528 per kg (INR 2,640 per 5 kg) versus INR 750 per kg at the airport.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Checked allowance is one piece per passenger (15 kg domestic, 10 kg on Kullu and Dornier sectors, 20 kg international; max 270 cm L+W+H on domestic) and no single bag may exceed 32 kg. Cabin is limited to 1 piece up to 5 kg within 40+30+15 cm (total 85 cm). Prepaid add-ons cap at 30 kg domestic and 20 kg international.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Pricing is weight-based, not per piece: anything above the free allowance is charged per kilogram. All published rates are inclusive of GST (except Northeast airport sales, quoted without GST), in INR, with LKR equivalents published for ex-Jaffna international travel.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Overweight baggage is charged at the per-kg excess rate (INR 700 domestic / INR 750 international at the airport, GST inclusive). Sports and music equipment is charged as excess baggage with no special discount. Odd-sized cabin bags that do not meet the 40+30+15 cm dimensions are not allowed in the aircraft.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Prepaid baggage cannot be bought on sectors to/from Kullu or Agatti-Kochi (one-way) due to ATR load restrictions. Airport excess on Northeast sectors is INR 666.66 per kg without GST. Students on student fares get 10 kg extra free with a valid student ID (not on Kullu sectors). Pets in cabin cost twice the sector excess rate; trained guide dogs travel free. Alliance Air has no mobile app, so all online purchases go through the website.
