FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

No. Cape Air does not offer online pre-purchase of extra baggage. Baggage fees are assessed and paid at the airport ticket counter or gate.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Pay baggage fees at the Cape Air ticket counter or at the gate. Manage Your Flight Reservation on capeair.com only supports flight changes, not baggage purchases.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

There is no advance-purchase window or online deadline. Settle baggage fees when you check in at the airport on your day of travel.

How does the airline calculate extra baggage charges?

Fees are charged per bag based on your ticketed itinerary. Lower-fee routes charge $30 for the 1st bag, $40 for the 2nd and $80 for the 3rd; higher-fee routes charge $40, $50 and $90. Bags of 51-70 lbs add a cumulative overweight fee of $80 or $90.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Each ticketed customer may bring one additional standard bag (up to 50 lbs and 62 linear inches) plus up to two more bags subject to available space. No bag over 70 lbs or over 62 linear inches is accepted.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Bags between 51 and 70 lbs pay an additional cumulative fee ($80 on lower-fee routes, $90 on higher-fee routes) and travel subject to available space. Bags over 70 lbs and bags over 62 linear inches are not accepted on any Cape Air flight.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

There is no online price: the airport rate is the only rate. All published bag fees are paid at the airport, so buying early does not save money.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Cape Air's fees apply when the first flight on your ticket is a Cape Air (9K) flight. When the first flight is marketed by a partner airline, that airline's baggage fees apply; check the partner's website.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

Active-duty, Reserve and National Guard military personnel (including dependents and retirees) with a military or dependent ID are exempt from standard baggage fees, though size and weight limits still apply. A child (age 2-18) has the same allowance as an adult; an infant under 2 has no separate allowance. Bicycles, surfboards, canoes, kayaks and other large sporting equipment are not accepted as checked baggage.
